Archangel Mermaid Tarot Dream

Had an interesting dream the other night, involving a family of another country and culture (true; I really know these people but not listing those details here) but, in this dream, involving music, dance and drumming, among other things, the following:

I'm in the room with this family, and lots of other people as well. Up on a little platform, is a long table with a dark haired (long dark hair) woman (around 40? maybe 50) who is reading from a deck. I assume it's a tarot deck, but can't get close enough to see. The backs of the cards are beautiful; greens and blues, mermaids.
I can't hear the woman too well; can't tell if it's a traditional tarot deck or an oracle deck. I notice the woman doesn't have any clients; she just starts reading out loud to no one. Is she giving the whole room a reading? Reading to someone invisible? I still can't see the deck up close. I want to, because it's so beautiful, from the backs. I'm all about mermaids! But I'm confused as to the nature of the reading. Also, I realize I don't much like her. I don't like her style; she seems almost rude, and very loud. Not my approach.
Yet after awhile, I realize what she's saying is more important than the way she's saying it. And, with a sudden awareness, I just know that she's more than human, if she's really human at all. She's an archangel! She's a mermaid archangel.
When I understand this, I feel better. I'm awed, actually. And I realize her reading to the room is for anyone out here who cares to listen. It makes sense now. It's not important that I don't dig her style; it's not about that.
I want this deck!

Animal Spirit Oracle: Susan Boulet

Animal Spirit Oracle, Susan Boulet
A friend of mine did a mini-reading for me using the beautiful Animal Spirit Knowledge Cards Oracle, created by Susan Boulet. (Boulet died in 1997.) I fell in love with the deck and ordered one as soon as I returned home. They arrived the other day, and I've been enjoying exploring this deck.

Crow, Susan Boulet
Some readers feel  that the deck is not used for "divinatory" purposes but  more for personal use. I haven't tried using them in a reading for another, but I will try that just to see. I've had good readings using other animal decks, the Medicine Cards in particular. I'm also curious about using these cards in a multi-deck reading, maybe with the Angel Dreams oracle. (Doreen Virtue.)

The cards are on the smaller side, with full picture on the front, and the meaning on the back. I like the fact that there isn't any text on the front. Just the image, there for you to meditate on without words. The slightly smaller than usual size for tarot or oracle cards doesn't detract from the artwork. There are 48 cards in the deck.

One slight criticism: I would have liked more diversity in the key words with the descriptions, and some of the images are sideways or "landscape" while the majority are vertical. I found that to be a little distracting.

From Patheos: "Scrying Over You"

Scrying Over You: In the end, the magic’s not in the physical tool. It’s in you, and you can start out with some simple household or inexpensive items. So feel free to use an old, black coffee cup filled with water as a scrying pool. But once you start using it for that, it’s probably best not to also use it for your morning coffee. The first step in scrying is perceiving the spiritual aspects of the world. The second (and often more difficult) part is being able to understand what you see, and interpret what it means back here in the everyday. (Patheos)
Good advice and insights on scrying. Something I've tried, and continue to explore, and I agree with the author that it's not all about distinct and dramatic pictures -- like a movie -- but something more subtle. I also like the advice that anything can be used for scrying; a bowl of water, etc. It's fun as well as comforting, for myself, to use mirrors (especially if you made them yourself) but not necessary. Also not necessary to use a crystal ball, which, depending on the size, can be very expensive. It's not always about the tools, but it is always about you, your intentions, and your relationship with the spirits.

Steampunk Magick

The inventor of Steampunk Magic (k), Gypsey Teague, is tonight's guest on George Noory's Coast to Coast radio program

.

I'm unfamiliar with Teague, but the blending of steampunk and magic seems like a natural partnership. Steampunk itself is new, even while based on old. So how new is this new compared to the traditions it's based upon? Moot point I suppose. (For example, we have at least one Steampunk oracle deck, and so on. Steampunk fashion is popular within the witchy realm)

Speaking of steampunk and magic, I've been enjoying the BBC program Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, based on the book by Susanna Clarke.

The character of Jonathan Strange is a new practioner of magick, fighting against the "respectable", rigid and conservative master magician -- England's "only" magician -- Mr. Norrell.

Mind the Gap: Meditations on Magical Realism | EsoterX

From one of my favorite esoteric, Fortean-anomalous-mystical type minded blogs, where the writing is always excellent and the topics varied and unique, is the following on his relationship with knowing tarot -- what to do, how to do it, and much more, such as "truth"… this from ExoterX:

Mind the Gap: Meditations on Magical Realism | EsoterX: So, I put the question to him. Do tarot cards work? After all, he had dabbled in the occult, explored the world of sympathetic magic, altered his own consciousness in myriad ways, and most importantly to the question at hand, given tarot card readings professionally. After I endured a brief diatribe largely summed up by “Who cares?”, and surrounding the poverty of my genetic inheritance and the abysmal greyness of my grey matter, he became more thoughtful, and gave an answer that has long stuck with me as a remarkably sane and fruitful perspective on all things anomalous or esoteric. He said, “Tarot, or frankly any kind of oracle, doesn’t tell you anything you don’t already know”. Then he took a smoke break. (Esoterx blog)

Rabbit: Supernatural, Synchronicity and Strange

On my blog Animal Forteana, a new post about rabbit synchronicity. Last night's episode of Ghost Adventures explored the Bell Witch haunting, which includes the supernatural apparition of a hybrid entity that has the head of a rabbit and body of a dog. Bunny coincidences ensued. . .

(By the way, just how many blogs do you have Regan, one might ask? About a dozen, I'd say. Check back for an updated blog list.)

In the context of card oracles, what messages does Rabbit bring? Depends on the system:

RABBITFertility and New LifeThe Rabbit is known for its ability to procreate, its fleetness, and its movement is by leaps.People with this totem may find that their endeavors go in leaps and bounds also.If a Rabbit totem has appeared in your life, it may indicate a need for more planning or to check those plans already set in motion.Do not box yourself in a corner. This totem may also bring a need to examine the kinds of foods you eat.Perhaps a vegetarian diet, if only for a short time, can help you strengthen and heal.Rabbit is associated with Eostra, the Celtic goddess of Spring, and therefore associated with Ostara (or Easter). This is the reason we celebrate with Easter eggs.Rabbit is also sacred to the moon goddess Andraste, the Norse goddess Freya, and the Greek god Hermes. The Hare is associated with the moon in many cultures including Native American, Hindi, and China. (from Medicine Card Meanings/Golden Mousedeer)
Medicine Cards tells us that Rabbit signifies FEAR:
The keynote here is: what you resist will persist! What you fear most is what you will become.
Here is the lesson. If you pulled Rabbit, stop talking about horrible things happening and get rid of "what it" in your vocabulary. This card may signal a time of worry about the future or of trying to exercise your control over that which is not yet in form - the future. Stop now! Write your fears down and be willing to feel them. Breathe into them, and feel them running through your body into Mother Earth as a give-away. (Medicine Cards,David Carson, Jamie Sams.)

7 Steps to Developing Your Intuition With Tarot Meditation | Biddy Tarot Blog

From Biddy Tarot, one of my favorite tarot people on the web (Lisa Frideborg being another) on developing one's intuition using the tarot:

7 Steps to Developing Your Intuition With Tarot Meditation | Biddy Tarot Blog: A Tarot meditation typically begins with a general relaxation of the body and the mind, before going deeper into the image of the selected Tarot card and exploring the messages of the imagery.

Tarot Card Meditation in 7 Steps

Step 1: Select a Tarot Card (Biddy Tarot)
All excellent steps. I've been doing my own versions of this for some time. I'm sure many of us have done something like this; this is one more path to try.

The Pendulum and UFOs

I posted this in 2011 on my Orange Orb blog:

I have success with dowsing and pendulums, but I am wary of using the latter when it comes to UFO and paranormal areas. It's ripe for trickiness; it's an open invitation for devious manipulations of the subconscious as well as free-floating energies. I'm reminded of contactee Ida Kannaberg's Project Earth, where she first received telepathic messages with ET type entities via pendulum. Channeled communications from something (s), somewhere, no doubt. The opening of pathways for these others to come on in is easily created.

This awareness didn't stop me from using the pendulum, after asking it about more mundane issues,  about UFO experiences. Asking about my orange orb sighting and whether it was a human made craft: clear no. ET or "alien" created? Yes. Missing time; related to the orange orb sighting? Weak yes. Hmmmm. ET/alien caused? Sharp no. Hmmm. Human caused? Clear yes. Aha. Maybe. All this means . . . what. I tell myself consciously -- insist -- that I have no idea what that orb was, and while it certainly could have been "alien," it could also have been any  number of other things. I don't doubt the MILABS aspect of abduction and UFO events, but how deep do my subconscious thoughts go concerning the subject?

Was the orange orb sighting alien, and the missing time a component of that sighting, manipulated by human spooks? Aware that we had the sighting, in either partnership with, or attempts to control, the ET presence? Or, just pendulum silliness? Why do I trust the pendulum's insights in other matters but not in this realm? I've had several UFO related events in my life concerning telepathic or psychic communications (not "channeling") and certainly as many sightings, so why this resistance? I suppose some of this skepticism has to do with fear of grabbing onto any old easy answer; so many have been tricked, duped, manipulated, lied to and even driven crazy in some ways by UFOs. There's also the messenger being believed as creator of the message. Simply because an entity or energy drops by and says it is such a thing, doesn't make it so. It just means that's what it's telling you. Ha.

This is what some do not get when it comes to the Contactees, the channlers, the UFO witnesses. Oh, something happened all right, something huge, but the UFO Police -- and not just the standard debunkers -- reject these as embarrassments to UFOlogy and nothing more. The Gloria Lee's, Dana Howards, George Van Tassels, Howard Metzger's and so many more tapped into something that transcends a simplistic dismissal from researchers that continue to distance themselves from the esoteric side of UFO experience.

Tarot or Oracle Deck?

Or, both?

Why choose -- it's not a contest.

Tarot card: Major Arcana, The Empress, RWS deck

Both are wonderful tools to use. Both are oracles, really. The tarot are cards, and of themselves, an oracle. Oracle cards are not always tarot cards, and don't follow any rules or form that the tarot does. But both are card decks, and both are used for similar purposes.

Tarot cards, while differing in style, artwork, and theme, follow specific rules. A tarot deck contains 78 cards. 22 of those cards are the Major Arcana cards, and the rest are the Minor Arcana cards of four suites. (56 cards.)

Tarot card, Major Arcana: The High Priestess, Doreen Virtue Angel Tarot

Within this classic structure there are differences on occasion, depending on the deck creator's inspiration. Wands may be called batons, or fire, or staffs. Coins may be called discs or pentacles or earth, spirals, etc. … sometimes the names of the Major Arcana might be changed. Doreen Virtue's Angel Tarot renamed the Death card "Rebirth." There are hundreds and hundreds of tarot decks out there, many with some changes but overall, there is a standard as to number of cards, the way they are arranged (Minor and Major Arcana, etc.) and meanings assigned.
Oracle deck: Magical Mermaids and Dolphins, Doreen Virtue

Oracle decks do not follow any traditional rules as to number of cards -- in fact, often oracle decks have fewer cards than a tarot deck. There are also hundreds of themes; angels, fairies, animals, flowers, chakras, dreams . . .

If you're new to tarot and feel a bit intimidated or overwhelmed, try using an oracle deck. Reading with an oracle deck will help you with your confidence. Using an oracle deck will open up your perception and your intuition, allowing these to come through easily, and you'll soon find yourself feeling very comfortable doing readings.

Oracle card: Lynx, Medicine Cards, Jamie Sams

Find an oracle deck that you like, that speaks to you. There so many themes out there you're sure to find one that fits your personality.

Whether using tarot or oracle cards, relax and have fun and always follow your own sense of where the reading is going.

Unveiling the Hidden Psychic Messages in Your Tarot Readings with Sherry (Part 1) | Biddy Tarot Blog

I like this three part article from Biddy Tarot, on accessing the psychic side of self and tarot. Sometimes we ignore little nudges and signs as being irrelevant. Doreen Virtue says just say "Bleh!" meaning, whatever comes to you, no matter how much you're second guessing yourself or how "silly" it may seem, use it! Of course this applies to oracle (non-tarot) decks as well.
Unveiling the Hidden Psychic Messages in Your Tarot Readings with Sherry (Part 1) | Biddy Tarot Blog: A common misperception about psychic phenomena is that it’s really obvious – just like in the movies. However, did you know that psychic phenomenon is incredibly subtle on most occasions? In fact most people, when confronted with psychic occurrences, dismiss it as ‘oh it must have been my imagination’ or overlook it completely simply because they didn’t know what they were looking for. In this three-part blog, I’m going to show you how to know when you have psychic elements occurring in the tarot reading you are doing for yourself or someone else. (Biddy Tarot)

"Ms. Wolf"

Having fun with the first graders in the cafeteria the other day; gently teasing a couple of them who couldn't remember my name. Everyone laughing; then I asked one of the students again what my name was. Student looks at me, very seriously, thinking. Then says "Ms. Wolf!"

"Ms. Wolf!" I said, in mock horror at his getting my name wrong. (More laughter.) Then I said "Well, wolves are cool, I like it! From now on my name is Ms. Wolf." More laughing. And many of the kids agreed that the Wolf is, indeed, a very cool animal.

I told this story to my husband and he said "That child saw something in you. The wolf is your spirit animal, your guide, your totem. He knew that." That didn't occur to me. (The school does have an animal mascot, but it's not a wolf or in the canine family.)

Ancestor and ArchAngel Metatron Altar

My new bedroom altar arrangement. I've been working with Arch Angel Metatron and ancestors meditations. The right side is archangel Metatron, left is ancestors. They aren't clear in the photo but in front of the votive are skull bracelets. Will have to do until I can afford a skull. I love using a simple snifter of water for scrying, as well as the black mirror in the silver frame. Both different with very different effects, but both enjoyable to use. Food offering and water are also on the altar, behind the votive on the right. I've been doing this for a few days now; I'll post more on some results in the near future.

Grid Dreams

Two nights in a row I've had dreams about crystal grids.

The first dream -- which included an intense OBE state -- had me throwing the stones, like runes, to read them. My husband walked in and was curious so I read them for him, and explained the meaning of each stone or crystal.

The second dream, last night, seems a little comic. It's the second one with one of my many recurring dreamscapes -- this one is a room, the first room when you walk in the smallish house -- with wood paneling, no furniture or windows, just a table in the middle of the room. It's a sort of classroom. The house is up on a little bit of a hill, set back from the sidewalk, in a usual hum drum kind of residential neighborhood. The house has nothing special about it at all, really, kind of boring.

I'm inside, standing at the table (no chairs) with the characters from the TV show Big Bang Theory. (The only sit com I watch.) All the characters are here, but the main attention seems to be on Sheldon. They're here to learn from me how to create grids. Sheldon has already made his. He is being very "Sheldon" and anal-Obsessive Compulsive, and has placed the stones inside a wood box with high sides. He's more concerned with correct placing of stones because of shape and size; he hasn't gotten the concept of crystal and grid energy yet.

I tell him, gently, that it doesn't matter so much about the exact placement and size proximity of each stone, but that the sides of the box disrupt the flow of energy. I take the box apart, which agitates "Sheldon" but I tell him it's okay. Then he insists on using a wand to get the energy moving but he can't find the right wand. I tell him it's not necessary to use a wand, his hand or fingers will do.

Suddenly we hear a loud, booming male voice that's coming from behind one of the doors to the rooms. He's asking for Penny, he wants her to come into the room. He says he has something important to tell her. Everyone is impressed and "Oooooo, it's 'HIM', it must be important, Penny you have to go." I laugh and tell them this man is nobody, no one important at all, and he should come out and talk to us face to face, not hide in a room. Also, I say, he's just a fake horny would be guru who only wants to get into Penny's pants. I shrug and tell Penny it's up to her and she's an adult, but, "whatever."

I am surprised that they all, especially Sheldon, are curious about learning about crystals and grids and energy because, I tell them, it's something they'd usually think of as "woo." But they are genuinely interested, even though they don't get it.

Ouija Boards – Tool for spirit communication? Or portal to hell? | Mystic Cauldron Blog

S. Marlin at Mystic Cauldron has a great article on the use of Ouija boards: Ouija Boards – Tool for spirit communication? Or portal to hell?:

Why do ouija boards have such a bad reputation for spirit communication while other tools such as digital or tape recorders to capture EVPs (electronic voice phenomena) seem fine? After all, a tool is a tool, and a spirit is a spirit, right? ~ S. Marlin, Mystic Cauldron
Excellent question and Mystic Cauldron tells us why! I think it's very good advice.

Review: Black Cats Tarot

I wrote a review of  Maria Kuara's Black Cats tarot, published by Lo Scaraeo, on Amazon awhile ago. I like the deck and don't think it's "cute" as some think, but as always, to each their own when it comes to decks. There is no right or wrong, simply what works for you.
